Option 2 : Displacement of brain tissue

Concept:

  • Intracranial pressure -> The pressure inside the skull -> Accumulation of Cerebrospinal fluid or Intracranial Hemorrhage
  • Intracranial pressure increase sign and symptoms -> Bleeding, tumor, hypertension, stroke and aneurysm.
  • ICP increase -> Neurological upset.
  • Frequent assessment tools include:-
    • CT scan
    • MRI
    • Spinal Tap

Explanation:

  • Head injury -> An assault caused to the head -> External factors -> Can lead to potential damage in the brain.
  • Any brain injury -> Brain tissue displacement -> Normal function is affected.
  • Altered brain function symptoms -> Loss of muscle coordination, altered state of consciousness, trouble in speech and vision problem.
  • Management -> Increase Ventilation-> Prevent further complications -> Symptomatic treatment.

  • Increased in cerebral perfusion -> Bleeding is not the same as perfusion.
  • Improved brain tissue oxygenation -> Loss of blood -> Does not nourish the brain tissue.
  • Increase in serum pH -> Acidosis is seen in case of head injury.
