Option 1 : MB
Concept:
- Myocardial Infarction = Heart Attack
- Myocardial Infarction -> It is a medical emergency that occurs when heart muscle begins to die due to lack of oxygen.
- In a patient with suspected myocardial infarction. The nurse assesses for elevations in higher than normal CK-MB enzymes, it may mean you have an inflammation of the heart muscle or are having or recently had a heart attack.
- Normal reference range for serum CK MB range from 3 to 5% (percentage of total CK) or 5 to 25 IU/L.
- Creatinine kinase mainly has three isoenzymes
- CK-MM
- CK-MB
- CK-BB (in cytoplasm)
- The majority of patients with acute MI will have elevation in troponins within 2 to 3 hours, and 6 to 12 hours with creatine kinase.
- If a person has higher than normal CK-MM enzymes, that depicts muscle injury or disease, such as muscular dystrophy or rhabdomyolis.
- If CK-MB enzymes are higher than normal, that depicts inflammation of the heart muscle or are having or recently had a heart attack.
