Option 2 : Clear consciousness

  • Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is mainly a rise in pressure around the brain. It may be due to an increase in the amount of fluid or cerebrospinal fluid  surrounding the brain. 
  • Normal adult ICP is 5 to 15 mm Hg (7.5–20 cm H2O)
  • ICP values of 20 to 30 mm Hg represent mild intracranial hypertension

Symptoms of Increased Intracranial Pressure

  • Headache
  • Blurred Vision
  • Drowsiness
  • Unequal pupils
  • Vomiting
  • Altered level of consciousness
  • Irritability

 Early sings of increased ICP are

 Main changes in mental status including 

  • disorientation
  • restlessness
  • mental confusion
  • purposeless movements
  • increased respiratory effort.
