Given:

Karisma has been spending ₹5,400 on the purchase of an item every year for the past three years.

She paid for the item in the first year, ₹24 in the second year and ₹14.40 in the third year. (per unit)

Concept used:

Total = Average × Number of entities

Calculation:

In the first year, she got 

⇒ 5400/9

⇒ 600 units of the item

In the second year, she got 

⇒ 5400/24

⇒ 225 units of the item

In the third year, she got 

⇒ 5400/14.4

⇒ 375 units of the item

Total units of item acquired by her = 600 + 225 + 375 = 1200 kg

Total price paid by her = 5400 × 3 = ₹16200

Now, the average per-unit price that she paid for this item in the three years

⇒ 16200/1200

⇒ ₹13.50

∴ The average per-unit price that she paid for this item in the three years was ₹13.50.
