A, B, C and D bought a motorbike for Rs.60,000. A paid one half of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three. B paid one third of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three and C paid one fourth of the sum of the amounts paid by other three. How much did D has to pay? Correct Answer Rs.13000
Given:
A, B, C and D bought a motorbike for Rs.60,000
A paid one half of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
B paid one third of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
C paid one fourth of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
Calculation:
Given,
A + B + C + D = 60000
A paid one half of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
A = (B + C + D)/2
⇒ (B + C + D) = 2A
A + B + C + D = A + 2A = 3A
⇒ 3A = 60000
∴ A = 20000
B paid one third of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
B = (A + C + D)/3
⇒ (A + C + D) = 3B
A + B + C + D = B + 3B = 4B
⇒ 4B = 60000
∴ B = 15000
C paid one fourth of the sum of the amounts paid by the other three
C = (A + B + D)/4
⇒ (A + B + D) = 4C
A + B + C + D = C + 4C = 5C
⇒ 5C = 60000
∴ C = 12000
A + B + C + D = 60000
⇒ (20000 + 15000 + 12000 + D) = 60000
⇒ 47000 + D = 60000
∴ D = 60000 - 47000 = 13000
D has to pay Rs.13000
