Questions below followed by three quantities. Find the relationship between them. Quantity I: Average age of 14 members of team is 25 years. While oldest member of the team is 26 years older than youngest member of the team. Out of remaining 12 members of team, average age of six members of team is 28 years and the remaining six members is 20 years. What is the age of oldest member of the team? Quantity II: Average age of Nitu, Rekha and Shyam is 17 years. Two new persons Divya and Raju joined them so that average age of all become 19 years. If Divya is 2 years older than Raju and Rekha is 2 years older and 1 year older than Shyam and Nitu respectively. What is sum of the average age of Nitu and Shyam together and average age of Divya and Rekha together? Quantity III: The average age of father, mother and their two sons is 27.5. Five years ago, the ratio of ages of father, mother and two sons (elder and younger) is 7 : 5 : 2 : 1. Find the sum of ages of two sons after 7 years.

Five years ago, the ratio of ages of father, mother and two sons (elder and younger) is 7 : 5 : 2 : 1. Find the sum of ages of two sons after 7 years. Correct Answer Quantity I > Quantity II < Quantity III

Quantity I:

Total age of 14 members = 14 × 25 = 350 years

Oldest - Youngest = 26

Now, let the youngest member of team be x

Oldest = 26 + x

According to question,

x + 26 + x = 350 - (28 × 6 + 20 × 6)

⇒ 2x + 26 = 350 - 288

⇒ 2x = 62 - 26

⇒ x = 18 years

Oldest member of team = 18 + 26 = 44 years

Quantity II:

Average age of Nitu, Rekha and Shyam = 17

Sum of age of these three = 3 × 17 = 51

Let Rekha’s age be x, then Shyam’s age = x - 2 and Nitu’s age = x - 1

⇒ x + x - 2 + x - 1 = 51

⇒ 3x = 54

⇒ x = 18

Rekha’s age = 18, Shyam’s age = 18 - 2 = 16, Nitu’s age = 18 - 1 = 17

Average age of all five = 19

Sum of age of all five = 5 × 19 = 95

Let Raju’s age be y, then Divya’s age = y + 2

⇒ 51 + y + y + 2 = 95

⇒ 2y = 42

⇒ y = 21

Raju’s age = 21 years, Divya’s age = 21 + 2 = 23

Average age of Nitu and Shyam = (17 + 16)/2 = 16.5

Average age of Divya and Rekha = (23 + 18)/2 = 20.5

Sum of their average ages = 16.5 + 20.5 = 37

Quantity III:

Let total present age of father, mother and two sons = 27.5 × 4 = 110

Let total age 5 years ago = 15x

ATQ,

15x = 110 - 20

⇒ 15x = 90

⇒ x = 6

Present age of one son = 2 × 6 + 5 = 17 and his age after 7 years = 17 + 7 = 24

Present age of another son = x + 5 = 11 and his age after 7 years = 11 + 7 = 18

Sum of their ages = 24 + 18 = 42

Quantity I > Quantity II < Quantity III
