The following questions are accompanied by three statements (I), (II), and (III). You have to determine which statements(s) is/are sufficient/necessary to answer the questions. What will be the ratio of ages of son and his father after 15 years, if the sum of their present ages is 57. Statement I: Ratio of ages of son after 5 years and father’s 3 years ago is 3: 4. Statement II: Father married x years ago. Statement III: Twice the father’s present age is 10 more than seven times the son’s present age. Correct Answer Either I or III
Let the present ages of son and father be ‘s’ and ‘f’ respectively,
According to the question,
⇒ s + f = 57 ----(1)
From statement I:
⇒ (s + 5)/(f - 3) = 3/4
⇒ 4s + 20 = 3f - 9
⇒ 3f - 4s = 29 ----(2)
From statement III:
⇒ 2f = 7s + 10
⇒ 2f - 7s = 10 ----(3)
Thus, either of statements (I) or (III) will give the values of ‘s’ and ‘f’
