The marked price of a book is Rs. 1500. A shopkeeper offers 20% discount on the product and then again offers 15% discount on the new price. How much will a customer have to pay? Correct Answer Rs. 1020

On successive discounts of x% and y%,

Total discount = (x + y – xy/100)%

As the successive discounts are 20% and 15%,

Total discount = % = (35 – 3)% = 32%

Discount = 32% of 1500 = (32/100) x 1500 = Rs. 480

∴ Selling price = Marked price – Discount = 1500 – 480 = Rs. 1020
