The marked price of a headphone is Rs. 1400. A shopkeeper offers 20% discount on the net price and then again offers a discount of 12% on the reduced price. In the second offer, he offers a discount of 29% on the whole. Which is the better offer? Correct Answer Both 2) and 3)

Calculation:

Case - 1

⇒ Marked price = 1400

⇒ First discount = 20%

⇒ S.P = 1400 – (20% of 1400) = 1120

⇒ Second discount = 12% on reduced price

⇒ Final S.P = 1120 – (12% of 1120) = 985.6

Case - 2

⇒ Marked price = 1400

⇒ Discount on whole = 29%

⇒ S.P = 1400 – (29% of 1400) = 994

∴ Case 1 is favorable for the customer and case - 2 is favorable for the seller
