A shopkeeper marked an item 50% above the cost price and sold to customer A at a 10% discount. While he marked the same item 60% above the cost price and sold to customer B at a 20% discount. If customer A paid Rs. 56 more than customer B, then what is the profit amount earned by a shopkeeper after selling items to both the customers? Correct Answer Rs. 504

Let CP be 100x

SP of item for A = 90% of 150% of 100x = 135x

SP of item for B = 80% of 160% of 100x = 128x

According to the question,

135x – 128x = 56

⇒ x = 8

∴ Profit amount earned = (135x + 128x) – 200x = 63x = Rs. 504
