Cost price of item A is Rs. 300 less than that of item B for a shopkeeper. He marks item A and B above 80% and 40% respectively their cost prices and sold them at 20% and 40% discount respectively. If selling price of item, A is Rs. 18 more than that of item B, then what is the ratio of cost price of item A to that of item B? Correct Answer 3 ∶ 5
Let cost price of item A and item B is ‘x’ and ‘x + 300’ respectively.
Selling price of item A = 80% of 180% of x = 1.44x
Selling price of item B = 60% of 140% of (x + 300) = 0.84(x + 300) = (0.84x + 252)
According to the question ∶
1.44x – (0.84x + 252) = 18
x = 450
Required ratio = x ∶ (x + 300) = 450 ∶ 750 = 3 ∶ 5
