In an election between two parties BJP and INC, the number of valid votes received by BJP exceeds the number of votes received by INC by 10% of the total number of votes polled. If 15% of the votes polled were invalid and a total of 9000 votes were polled, then how many valid votes did INC get? Correct Answer 3375

Given-

Total Votes polled = 9000

Percentage of invalid votes = 15%

Concept used-

Total votes Polled = Valid votes + Invalid Votes

Total Valid Votes = Votes received by BJP + Votes received by INC (i.e all the parties in the election)

Calculations-

Let total no of votes received by INC is x.

Votes received by BJP - Votes received by INC = 10% of total votes polled

⇒ Votes received by BJP - Votes received by INC = 10% of 9000

⇒ Votes received by BJP - x = 900

⇒ Votes received by BJP = x + 900

Now,

Total valid votes = (100 - 15)% of 9000

= 85% of 9000

= 7650

Total valid votes = Votes received by BJP + Votes received by INC

⇒ 7650 = x + 900 + x

⇒ 2x = 7650 - 900

⇒ x = 3375

∴ Total no of votes INC got is 3375
