At what price per kg should she sell the dry watermelon (fresh watermelon are dried up) to earn 60% profit? Correct Answer Rs. 9.6
Given :
Fresh watermelon contains 75% of water by weight.
Dry watermelon contains 50% of water by weight.
Radhika buys 100kg of fresh watermelons for a total price of Rs. 300.
Concept :
Weight of watermelons pulp is same in dry watermelon and in fresh watermelon
Solution :
Weight of watermelons pulp in fresh watermelon = 100 × 25% = 25 kg
So, Weight of watermelons pulp in dry watermelon = 25 kg
⇒Weight of water in dry watermelon = 25 kg
Hence, total weight of dry water melon = 25 + 25 = 50 kg
Hence, Selling price = 1.6 × cost price= 300 × 1.6 = Rs. 480
∴ Price per kg = 480/50 = Rs. 9.6
