A vessel contains mixture of Bournvita and Complain in the ratio 4 ∶ 1 when 280 litre of mixture out taken out and same amount of Complain is added and now ratio is 9 ∶ 11. Find the final quantity of Complain.

A vessel contains mixture of Bournvita and Complain in the ratio 4 ∶ 1 when 280 litre of mixture out taken out and same amount of Complain is added and now ratio is 9 ∶ 11. Find the final quantity of Complain. Correct Answer 352 litre

Given:

Initial ratio of liquid Bournvita and Complain = 4 ∶ 1

First time replacement of the 280 litre mixture with Complain

Final ratio = 9 ∶ 11

Concept used:

Mixture is always taken out in the same ratio which is the initial ratio of ingredients of mixture.

Calculations:

Let the initial quantity of Bournvita and Complain be 4x and x

280 litre of mixture is taken out

So, The quantity of Bournvita which is taken out = (4/5) × 280 = 224

Remaining quantity Bournvita = 4x – 224

Similarly the quantity of Complain which is taken out = (1/5) × 280 = 56

Remaining quantity of Complain = x – 56

280 litre Complain is added into the remaining mixture

The total present quantity of Complain after added 20 litre = x – 56 + 280 = x + 224

∴ The present ratio between liquid Bournvita and Complain = (4x – 224)/(x + 224)

⇒ (4x – 224)/(x + 224) = 9 ∶ 11

⇒ 44x – 2464 = 9x + 2016

⇒ 35x = 4480

⇒ x = 128

Quantity of Complain in can = x + 224

⇒ 128 + 224 = 352 litre

∴ The final quantity of complain is 352 litre
