A dealer buys an article marked at Rs. 18000 from the producer at two successive discounts of 15% and then 10%. He spent Rs. 1230 on retail packaging of the article and then sold it at 25% profit to the customer. If the customer directly bought the article from the producer at marked price, then what amount would have been saved by the customer? Correct Answer Rs. 750

Marked price of the article = Rs. 18000

After two successive discounts of 15% and then 10%;

Price at which the dealer bought the article = 18000 × 85/100 × 90/100 = Rs. 13770

Since spent Rs. 1230 on retail packaging of the article then sold it at 25% profit to the customer;

∴ Amount paid by customer to the dealer = (13770 + 1230) × 1.25

⇒ 15000 × 1.25

⇒ Rs. 18750

∴ Amount must have been saved by the customer if he directly bought the article from the producer at marked price = 18750 - 18000 = Rs. 750
