Try different mantras depending on the tradition you follow. For instance, you could use Vajra Guru. This Tibetan mantra is said to contain all of the blessings of all of the Buddhas of all time. Alternatively, try contemplative prayer. In the Christian tradition, there's contemplative prayer, where you choose a single word to dwell on and hold in your heart. The Orthodox tradition uses the Jesus Prayer, which is chanted continually until the chanting becomes subliminal. Or, try loving kindness. The loving kindness meditation is broken into 5 parts, and it's a really powerful mantra that can help you feel more calm and positive. Start by saying "May I be happy, may I be well." Then, think of someone close to you, and say, "May they be happy, may they be well." Repeat that for someone you feel neutral about, then for a person you're having difficulty with. Finally, expand it outward to cover all people.
