If it's over a business decision, just stick to the topic of discussion and don't get personal. However, if it's not over a business decision it's extremely important to start with the context. Is the boss making unreasonable demands? Are the requests inconsistent with company policy? Do you feel unappreciated? Are your deadlines reasonable, feasible? Do you feel overwhelmed with your workload and need help? Once figure out why you're in conflict with your boss, it's a lot easier to put your feelings in perspective and come to a solution.
