As a result of 25% hike in the price of rice per kg, a person is able to purchase 6 kg less rice for Rs. 1,200. What was the original price of rice per kg?  Correct Answer Rs. 40

GIven:

Expenditure = Rs. 1,200

Change in price = 25% incress

Change in quantity = 6 kg less bought

Calcultaion:

Let the person bought x kg of rice in Rs. 1,200

Now, hike in price is 25%

⇒ New price = 1200 × (125/100) = 1500

Hike lead to reduce the quantity (x -6) kg

Difference of Rs. 300 is equalt to difference in quantiy 6 kg

⇒ 6 kg = 300

⇒ 1 kg = 50

Rs. 50 is hikes priced and orginal price is asked.

⇒ 125% = 50

⇒ 100% = 50 × (100/125) = 40

∴ The orignial price of rice per kg was Rs. 40.
