A train starts from Delhi at 11 : 00 A.M. and reaches Chandigarh at 2: 00 p.m. and a car start to move from Chandigarh at 12: 30 P.M. and reaches Delhi at 6 : 30 P.M. If the distance between Delhi and Chandigarh is 300 km, then at what time the train and car meet each other? Correct Answer 1: 30 P.M.

Given:

Distance between Delhi and Chandigarh = 300 km

The train starts at 11 : 00 A.M.

Formula used:

Speed : distance/time

Calculation:

Speed of train : 300/3

= 100 km/h

Speed of car = 300/6

= 50 km/h

Distance travelled by train from 11: 00 A.M. to 12 : 30 A.M. is 150 km

Remaining distance = 300 – 150 = 150 km

Relative speed of train and car = (100 + 50)km/h

= 150 km/h

Time : 150/150

= 1 hour

Hence, the train and car  meet at 1 : 30 P.M.
