A starts his car to move from Pune to Delhi at a speed of 40 km/h. B starts his car to go from Delhi to Pune after 1.5 hours of A’s starting at a speed of 70 km/h. Total distance between Pune and Delhi is 500 km. After how much time they will meet and how much distance they have covered when they meet?
A starts his car to move from Pune to Delhi at a speed of 40 km/h. B starts his car to go from Delhi to Pune after 1.5 hours of A’s starting at a speed of 70 km/h. Total distance between Pune and Delhi is 500 km. After how much time they will meet and how much distance they have covered when they meet? Correct Answer 4 hours; A’s distance = 220 km; B’s distance = 280 km
As we know,
Time = Distance/Speed
Distance covered by A in 1.5 hours = 1.5 × 4 = 60 km
Total distance remained between Pune and Delhi = 500 - 60 = 440 km
Relative speed of A and B = 40 + 70 = 110 km/h
So, Number of hours after they will meet = 440/110 = 4 hours
Total distance covered by A in 5.5 (4 + 1.5) hours = 5.5 × 40 = 220 km
Total distance covered by B in 4 hours = 4 × 70 = 280 km
∴ A and B will meet after 4 hours of B’s starting where they have covered distance of 220 km and 280 km respectively.
