Speed of thief = 4 m/s

Speed of policeman = 11 m/s

Concept:

Since, both are moving in the same direction, calculate their relative speed with respect to each other. With the relative speed, the policeman will cover the distance between them to catch the thief.

Formula used:

Time = Distance/Speed

Calculation:

Relative speed of Policeman w.r.t to thief = (11 - 4) m/s

= 7 m/s

∴ The time taken by policeman to catch the thief = 868/7 sec

= 124 sec

= 2 min 4 sec
