During a sale, Chaya bought the pressure cooker at 30% discount and the rice cooker at 35% discount. What percentage of the total of the original prices did Chaya save? Correct Answer 33.125%

Given :

Original price of pressure cooker = Rs. 1200

Original price of rice cooker = Rs. 2000

Discount% on pressure cooker = 30%

Discount% on rice cooker = 35%

Calculations :

Selling price of cooker after 30% discount = 1200 - 30% of 1200

⇒ 1200 - 360 

⇒ 840 

Now, 

selling price of rice cooker after 35% discount = 2000 - 35% of 2000 

⇒ 2000 - 700 

⇒ 1300 
Money saved from original price = (1200 + 2000) - (840 + 1300)

⇒ 3200 - 2140 

⇒ 1060 rupees 

Percentage saving on original price = (1060/3200) × 100 

⇒ 1060/32 

⇒ 33.125% 

∴ Option 2 is the correct answer.
