108 kg of mixture C was prepared by mixing equal quantities of mixtures A and B, made up of chalk powder and brick powder, such that the ratio of chalk and brick powder in mixture C is 17 ∶ 10. If mixture A comprised of 22 kg chalk powder, how much brick powder was present in mixture B? Correct Answer 8 kg
Total weight of mixture C = 108 kg
Ratio of mixture C = 17 ∶ 10
Quantity of chalk powder in mixture C = (17/27) × 108 = 68 kg
Quantity of brick powder in mixture C = 108 – 68 = 40 kg
∵ Mixtures A & B are mixed in equal quantities,
Weight of mixture A = Weight of mixture B = 108/2 = 54 kg
Given, quantity of chalk powder in mixture A = 22 kg
Hence, quantity of brick powder in mixture A = 54 – 22 = 32 kg
∴ Quantity of brick powder in mixture B = 40 – 32 = 8 kg
