Venkatesh bought an LED TV set from a shop for Rs. 10200 after a discount of 15% during Diwali offer. His neighbour Swamynathan bought the same TV from the same shop for Rs. 9840 after a different discount. The shopkeeper gained a total profit of Rs. 4040. If the cost price of both the TV sets is equal and their marked price are also equal, then by how much amount does the shopkeeper mark each TV set above its cost price?

Venkatesh bought an LED TV set from a shop for Rs. 10200 after a discount of 15% during Diwali offer. His neighbour Swamynathan bought the same TV from the same shop for Rs. 9840 after a different discount. The shopkeeper gained a total profit of Rs. 4040. If the cost price of both the TV sets is equal and their marked price are also equal, then by how much amount does the shopkeeper mark each TV set above its cost price? Correct Answer Rs. 4000

Let the marked price of the TV set be ‘y’

Venkatesh gets a discount of 15%

∴ 85% of y = 10200

⇒ y = 10200 × 100/85

⇒ y = 12000

Let, the cost price of each TV set be ‘z’

Now, according to the question:

⇒ 10200 + 9840 – 2 × z = 4040

⇒ 20040 - 2z = 4040

⇒ 2z = 20040 - 4040

⇒ z = 16000/2

⇒ z = 8000

∴ The shopkeeper marked each TV set by = 12000 – 8000 = Rs. 4000
