From 600 ml of 40% solution of spirit, some quantity of solution is replaced by 16% solution of spirit. If the mixture so obtained contains 24% solution of spirit, how much solution of 40% spirit was replaced? Correct Answer 400 ml

Given:

Quantity of sprit of concentration 40% = 600 ml

Where, a > c > b

Calculation:

⇒ Ratio of quantity of sprit concentration 40% to that of replaced quantity of concentration of 16% = 8x : 16x = x : 2x

Total quantity = x + 2x = 3x

Replaced quantity = 2x

According to the question

3x = 600 ml

⇒ x = 600/3

⇒ x = 200 ml

∴ Replaced quantity of solution = 2 × 200 = 400 ml
