P takes 16 days to finish a piece of work 

Thus P work at the rate of 1/16

Q takes 24 days to finish a piece of work 

Thus Q work at the rate of 1/24

R takes 48 days to finish a piece of work

Thus R work at rate of 1/48

Thus our combined rate of working,

Combined rate = 1/8

∴ Together we can complete the work in 8 days
