Study the graph and answer the question∶ The ratio of the number of boys to that of girls who passed from school A is 5 ∶ 4 and the ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys who passed from school C is 4 ∶ 3. The total number of girls passed from schools A and C is what per cent of the total number of students who appeared from schools B and D? (Correct to one decimal place) Correct Answer 32.7%
Calculation:
In the case of School A,
Passed boys = 5/(5 + 4) × 180 = 100
Passed girls = 180 - 100 = 80
In the case of School C,
Passed boys = 3/(4 + 3) × 175 = 75
Passed girls = 175 - 75 = 100
Hence,
The total number of girls passed from schools A and C = 80 + 100 = 180
The total number of students who appeared from schools B and D = 225 + 325 = 550
% = 180/550 × 100% ≈ 32.7%
∴ The total number of girls passed from schools A and C is 32.7% of the total number of students who appeared from schools B and D.
