Calculation:

Time taken by A to finish the book = 250/6 = 41 hrs 40 mins

Time taken by B to finish the book = (250 - 72) pages at 8 pages per hour and 72 pages at 4 pages per hour (∵ double the time ⇒ half the speed)

= 178/8 + 72/4

= 89/4 + 72/4

= 161/4

= 40 hrs 15 mins
