Number of pages typed by A in 1 hour = 36/9 = 4 pages per hour

Number of pages typed by B in 1 hour = 40/5 = 8 pages per hour

According to the problem statement

Time required by A to type 6o pages = 60/4 = 15 hours

When they work together their speed = 4 + 8 = 12 pages per hour

Now Time required to type remaining 60 pages = 60/12 = 5 hours

Total time required = 15 hours + 5 hours = 20 hours

∴ Time required is 20 hours
