Consider the following question and decide which of the statements is sufficient to answer the question. Question: Mika is the niece of Mahi. Determine the present ages of Mika and Mahi. Statements: 1. Their mean age is 27. 2. After 15 years, Mahi’s age will be twice that of Mika’s. Correct Answer Statement 1 and 2 together are sufficient

Let Mika and Mahi ages be a and b years respectively.

Statement 1:

⇒ (a + b)/2 = 27

⇒ a + b = 54      ----(1)

Statement 2:

After 15 years,

⇒ (a + 15) = 2(b + 15)

⇒ a + 15 = 2b + 30

⇒ a – 2b = 15      ----(2)

By solving equations (1) and (2) both we can get the respective age of Mahi and Mika

∴ Statement 1 and 2 together are sufficient
