Select the correct alternative from the given choices. A trader sells a mixture of 25 litres of A and B. The cost price of A is Rs 8 / litre more than that of B. The trader sells the entire mixture for Rs. 700 and makes a profit of 25%. Which of the following can be the cost of B if the quantities and cost price of A and B are integers? Correct Answer 16
Let the quantity of A and B be ‘l’ litres and ‘(25 - l)’ litres respectively.
Let the cost of A and B be Rs (x + 8) and Rs x respectively.
The selling price is 700 and the profit % is 25%.
Hence, the cost price = 700(100 / 125) = 560
⇒ l(x + 8) + x(25 - l) = 560
⇒ lx + 8l + 25x - xl = 560
⇒ 8l + 25x = 560
The cost of B = x = (560 - 8l) / 25
As per the option, x cannot be equal to 10 or 20.
When, l = 20, x = 16
∴ cost of B = x = Rs. 16
