Rangeela, a dishonest milk seller, when buys milk from his supplier he takes 50 ml extra for every litre but when he sells the same he gives 50 ml less for every litre. If the cost price of milk is Rs. 42/litre and selling price is Rs. 56/litre, then calculate the profit or loss he incurred during a day if he bought 20 litres of milk a day from his supplier.
Correct Answer Rs. 28.7
Given:
CP = Rs. 42/litre
SP = Rs. 56/litre
While buying, Rangeela takes 50 ml extra
While selling, Rangeela gives 50 ml less
Purchase from supplier in a day = 20 litres
Formula used:
Profit = SP - CP
Calculation:
Cost price of 1 litre of milk = Rs. 42
He takes 50 ml extra so by giving the cost of 1 litre of milk he takes 1.05 litres.
He bought 20 litres from his supplier
He actually bought = 1.05 × 20 = 21 litres
He sells 50 ml less for every litre
For 21 litre he saves 1.05 litres
So his total sale is 22.05 litres and he paid for only 20 litres.
Rangeela makes his profit from (22.05 - 20) litres which is 2.05 litres
Cost price of 2.05 litres = Rs. (42 × 2.05)
⇒ Rs. 86.1
Selling price of 2.05 litres = Rs. (56 × 2.05) = Rs. 114.8
⇒ Rs. 114.8
Profit = SP - CP
⇒ Rs. (114.8 - 86.1)
⇒ Rs. 28.7
∴ Rangeela earned a profit of Rs 28.7.
