A man purchased a bike for Rs. 52000. His extra expenditures on its accessories and insurance are in the ratio of 7 ∶ 9 respectively. If he sold the bike for Rs. 67200 for 12% profit, then find that what percent (approx) of purchased price, he spends extra on the bike?

The purchased price of the bike = Rs.52000

Let his expenditures on accessories and insurance are ‘7x’ and ‘9x’ respectively.

According to the question∶

(52000 + 7x + 9x) × 112/100 = 67200

(52000 + 16x) × 28/25 = 67200

(3250 + x) × 28/25 = 4200

91000 + 28x = 105000

x = 500

His total extra expenditure on the bike = (7 + 9) × 500 = Rs.8000

Required percentage = (8000/52000) × 100 = 15.4% (approx.)
