Suppose the present ages of his granddaughter and Kishan be x and (82 – x) years respectively;

Then,

(82 – x) + 4 = 4(x + 4)

⇒ 86 – x = 4x + 16

⇒ 5x = 70

⇒ x = 14

So, present age of Kishan = 82 – 14 = 68 years

Hence,

Age of Kishan before 11 years = (x – 11) = 57 years
