The most important thing is to address the underlying cause. If the ulcer is caused by an infection like H pylori, make sure that you complete a full course of treatment and retest 4-6 weeks later. You should also avoid NSAIDs like Ibuprofen since they can make ulcer symptoms worse. Additionally, quit smoking, don't drink alcohol, and take antacids. There are some over-the-counter antacids as well as prescription-strength antacids that you can take to help deal with the pain associated with an ulcer. Eating a low-acid diet will also help.
