Waking up in a state of deep sleep is suboptimal. If you wake up after only a few hours, you may enter a state known as sleep inertia. It may feel like you can't shake yourself awake and you may have a headache, feel sensitive to light, or get easily confused. Your body is primed to continue sleeping and that can make you feel tired even after you do get a cup of coffee or shake yourself awake.
