Option 4 : Internal, Controllable

Motivation: The term motivation has been derived from the Latin word ‘movere’, which means ‘to move. “the factors that direct and energize the behavior of humans and other organisms”.

 Characteristics of motivation:

  • Motivation gives the capability the students to cater to the problems.
  • With the help of motivation, students have much focus on goals.
  • Internal set of motivation motivated the learners to engage in the same activity again and again, and this ability comes from the results of the tasks as success and failure.
  • Motivation always supports the students in their learning individually.
  • The teacher should have to motivate their students so that they can be fully goal-oriented.
  • If the student can handle the task perfectly then the ability to control motivates him to engage in such types of tasks.
  • Motivation is the panacea for demotivated students or those who have capabilities but don't perform well.

Thus we can say that an internal and controllable set of attributions on success or failure on a task is likely to cause an increase in students' motivation and attempts to engage in similar tasks in the future.

Basically motivation is of two types:

  • Extrinsic motivation refers to the performance of an activity in order to attain an outcome and comes from outside of the individual.
    • Example: Motivation by parents, teachers, society, peer groups, etc.
  • Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest in the task itself and exists within the individual.
    • Example: Motivation by self, motivation by curiosity, etc.
