Option 1 : Rock

  • The sound is produced by vibrating objects.
  • The sound is propagated by means of longitudinal waves through an elastic medium. The speed of sound is maximum in solids, less in liquids and the least in gases. Hence sound wave will travel fastest in rock because it has its particles closest together and it is the densest substance from the given option.
  • The wave will travel in Ice>Water>Air in order of speed.
  • Sound cannot travel through the vacuum because there are no particles to exhibit the properties of elasticity and inertia in the vacuum.
