CONCEPT
- Sound waves are of three types:
- Infrasonic waves: The sound waves of frequency between 0 Hz to 20 Hz are called infrasonic waves. Sound produced by thunders, volcano etc. Animals like elephants and whales can hear infrasonic sounds.
- Audible waves: The sound waves of frequency between 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz are called infrasonic waves. Human ear can able to listen to these frequencies
- Ultrasonic waves: The sound waves of frequency above 20,000 Hz are called infrasonic waves. Many animals like bats, cats, dogs, mice etc.
EXPLANATION
The various applications of ultrasonic sound waves are:
- For cleaning clothes, aeroplanes and machinery parts of clocks
- For measurement of the depth of the sea
- In ultrasonography
- For removing lamp-shoot from the chimney of factories
- In sterilization of any liquid
- For sending signals
Human beings cannot detect these waves but certain creatures such as dog, cat, bat, and mosquito can detect these waves.
