Option 1 : cold water
- Magnesium (Mg) reacts very slightly with cold water.
- The reaction between Magnesium and cold water stops very quickly because the magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂) formed is insoluble in water and forms a barrier on the magnesium stopping any reaction.
- The chemical reaction is as follows: Mg + 2H₂O → Mg(OH)₂ + H₂.
