Option 3 : 45 km/h
Given:
Length of Bridge = 180 km
Time Taken by train(Tt) = 3 hours
Time Taken by Boat(T) = 4 hours
Formula Used:
Speed = Distance/Time
Concept:
If distance is equal, then S1 × T1 = S2 × T2
Calculations:
Speed of Train(St) = Distance/Time
Speed of Train(St) = 180/3 = 60 km/h
Speed of Boat(Sb) = St + 30
Speed of Boat(Sb) = 60 + 30 = 90 km/h
As we can see speed of boat is more than the speed than the speed of the train, still it takes more time to travel the same distance as compare to train. It is because stream is upstream
The Stream is Upstream.
Let the speed of Upstream(Sup) is x
Speed of the boat in stream(S) = Sb – Sup
Train and boat travelled same distance
It means St × Tt = S × T
⇒ 60 × 3 = S × 4
⇒ S = 180/4
⇒ S = 45 km/h
⇒ S = Sb – Sup
⇒ 45 = 90 – Sup
⇒ Sup = 90 – 45 = 45 km/h
