Option 1 : 37
Given:
Pipe A can fill a tank in 8 hours
Pipe B can fill a tank in 12 hours
Pipe C alone can empty the full tank in 15 hours.
A and B are opened together for 2 hours and then C is also opened
Formula used:
Time taken by A + B + C = Remaining work/Efficiecy.(A + B + C)
Calculation:
According to the question;
| Time |
Total | Efficiency | |
| A | 8 hours | 120(LCM) | + 15 w/hrs |
| B | 12 hours | + 10 w/hrs | |
| C | 15 hours | - 8 w/hrs | |
A + B = 25 w/hrs
They work for 2 hours,
Toatal work done = 25 × 2 = 50 units
Remaining work = 120 - 50 = 70 units
Now, A is closed and B and C work,
B + C = 10 + (-8) = 2 w/hrs
Time Taken = 70/2 = 35 hours
Total Time Taken to fill the tank = 35 + 2 = 37 hrs.
∴ Total Time Taken to fill the tank is 37 hrs.
