এসিড ক্ষয়কারক পদার্থ। এসিডের ভেতর লোহার পাত রাখলে এর ক্ষয়কারী ধর্মের কারণে ধাতুর গঠিন বিকৃত হয়ে যায় বা নতুন যৌগ উৎপন্ন হয়। যেমনঃ- Fe + HCl = Fecl2+ H2 Felt + H2SO4 = FeSO4 + H2 ফলে ধাতু তার ধাতব বৈশিষ্ট্য হারিয়ে ঝাঝরা হয়ে যায়।
