Y=f(x) বলতে বোঝায় যেকোনো x এর জন্য একটিমাত্র y পাওয়া যাবে।এক্ষেত্রে যদি f(x)=2x-3 হয় তাহলে y=2x-3 হবে। অর্থাৎ x এর বিভিন্ন মান ইনপুট করলে ফাংশনটির যে মান পাওয়া যাবে তা হবে ফাংশনটির রেন্জ বা y।ফাংশনটি এভাবে বিবেচনা করা যেতে পারে,f(x)=2x-3 এর ক্ষেত্রে f(3)=3=y অর্থাৎ,এক্ষেত্রে f(x) এ x এর মান 3 হলে y=3 হবে।
