Given:

Four years ago, Jyoti’s age = 2 years + Sonu’s age and Shashi’s age = Sonu’s age - 2 years

After 2 years, average of ages of all three girls = 26 years

Calculation:

Suppose, 4 years ago, the age of Sonu is x years.

Then, 4 years ago, the age of Jyoti and Shashi were (x + 2) and (x - 2) years, respectively.

The present age of Sonu = (x + 4) years

The present age of Jyoti = (x + 6) years

The present age of Shashi = (x + 2) years

∴ After 2 years, the age of Sonu, Jyoti and Shashi will be (x + 6) years, (x + 8) years and (x + 4) years, respectively.

average of ages of all three girls after 2 years = (x + 6 + x + 8 + x + 4)/3 = (x + 6)

ATQ,

⇒ x + 6 = 26

⇒ x = 26 - 6

⇒ x = 20

∴ The present age of Shashi = (x + 2) = (20 + 2) = 22 years
