The present age of the mother is four times that of the present age of her son. Five years ago, her age was 7 times that of her son’s age. If the ratio between the present age of mother and father is 8 : 9, then, what is the present age of father? Correct Answer 45 years

Given:

Present age of Mother = 4 × present age of her son

5 years ago, Mother’s age = 7 × Son’s age

Ratio between Mother’s age and Father’s age = 8 : 9

Calculation:

Suppose the present age of son is x years, then, present age of his mother will be 4x.

5 years ago, the age of son will be (x - 5) years and his mother’s age will be (4x - 5) years

According to question -

⇒ (4x - 5) = 7 × (x - 5)

⇒ 4x - 5 = 7x - 35

⇒ (7x - 4x) = 35 - 5

⇒ 3x = 30

⇒ x = 10

∴ The present age of mother = 4x = 40 years

Given, the ratio of present age of mother and father = 8 : 9

∴ The present age of father = (40/8) × 9 = 45 years
