GIVEN:
Sarah keeps aside 25% of her monthly salary as petty cash.
She divides the remaining salary into two funds expenditure and investments in the respective ratio of 2 : 1.
She makes only two types of Investment- PPF, and MFs, in the respective ratio of 3 : 2.
CONCEPT:
Percentage and ratio concepts.
CALCULATION:
Suppose total salary of Sarah = Rs. P
Amount of money kept aside as petty cash = 25 / 100 × P = 0.25P
⇒ Remaining salary = P - 0.25P = 0.75P
Amount of money put into investments = 0.75P × 1 / 3 = 0.25P
⇒ Amount of money invested in MF = 0.25P × 2 / 5 = 0.1P
Accordin to the question,
0.25P - 0.1P = 5400
⇒ 0.15P = 5400
⇒ P = 36000
∴ Sarah's monthly salary = Rs. 36,000
