Formula:

If ratio of A and B is = x ∶ y

∴ A / B = x / y

Calculation:

Let, number of men = 3x and number of women = 2x

According to the question,

⇒ (3x - 18) / (2x - 7) = 9 / 7

⇒ 21x - 126 = 18x - 63

⇒ 3x = 63

⇒ x = 21

Actual number of women = 2 × 21 = 42

∴ the correct answer is 42.
