The Dadar Express leaves Mumbai for Delhi at 10:00 a.m. and travels at a speed of 60 kmph. The Rajdhani Express leaves Delhi for Mumbai at 06:00 p.m. and travels at a speed of 100 kmph. The total distance between Delhi to Mumbai is 1,600 km. At what time will both the trains meet? Correct Answer 01:00 a.m.

Given -

The Dadar Express leaves Mumbai for Delhi at 10:00 a.m. at the speed of 60 kmph

The Rajdhani Express leaves Delhi for Mumbai at 6:00 p.m. at the Speed of 100 kmph

Distance = 1600 km

Formula used -

Speed = (distance/time)

Concept used -

Both train travelled in opposite direction,

Relative Speed = Sum of their speeds

Solution -

Let they meet after t hours.

⇒ The Dadar Express started at 10:00 a.m. and speed = 60 kmph

⇒ It travelled distance in 8 hr = 60 × 8 = 480 km

⇒ Remaining distance = 1600 - 480 = 1120 km

⇒ Relative speed = (100 + 60) kmph = 160 kmph

⇒ time = (1120/160) = 7 hr

⇒ they meet after 7 hr, means (6 p.m. + 7 hr) = 01:00 a.m.

∴ Both trains meet at 01:00 a.m.

The question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of mathematics to choose the best possible answer. Train A departs at 9 : 20 am and train B departs at 10 : 50 am and they travel towards each other. After how much amount of time will the trains meet? I) Train A travels with a speed of 10 kmph and the difference between the speed of two trains is 6 kmph and both the trains are 160 km apart. II) Train B travels at a speed greater than Train A which travels with 10 kmph by 6kmph separated by a distance of 160 km.
