In a swimming pool, water and chlorine is mixed in which chlorine is 15% and water is 170 litres, what quantity of chlorine should be added in the swimming pool to make it 32% of the total weight of the swimming pool? Correct Answer 50 litres

Let the total weight of swimming pool be x litres

Quantity of chlorine in the swimming pool = (15/100) × x

Quantity of water in the swimming pool = 100% – 15% = (85/100) × x

According to question,

(85/100) × x = 170

⇒ x = 200

∴ Quantity of chlorine in the swimming pool = (15/100) × 200 = 30 litres

Now, quantity of chlorine to be added to make it 32% of the total weight

Let the chlorine added be x

∴ 30 + x = (32/100) × (200 + x)

⇒ 30 + x = 64 + 8x/25

⇒ x = 50

∴ 50 litres of chlorine should be added
